The Green New Deal, explained

What's actually in the Green New Deal?
Become a Video Lab member!
The Green New Deal is an ambitious plan to fight the effects of climate change. It’s the only American plan that actually acknowledges the size of the impending crisis. And it contains some difficult truths that we might not want to hear.
Read the Green New Deal resolution here:
For additional context I recommend this piece by Vox’s Umair Irfan on the United Nations climate report, where the world’s best climatologists tell us how urgent of a problem this is:
This piece from Vox’s David Roberts, shows that world leaders really aren’t taking this urgency seriously.
Finally, you should read this explainer of the Green New Deal, followed by this story (in list form) by Hannah Northey:
I also enjoyed this piece, from Kate Aronoff of the Intercept, that imagines a world after the Green New Deal: is a news website that helps you cut through the noise and understand what's really driving the events in the headlines. Check out

  • If you want to read about the Green New Deal in the lens of the 2020 election, I recommend this piece explaining Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s proposal: Inslee has the most ambitious climate proposals; it is, as Vox's David Roberts writes, the Green New Deal translated into policy. The reason they want to pass a resolution first is to get people committed without having to provide details. You know...kind of like that Obama Care thing...we will read it after we sign it into law.

I am all for improving the world and developing better sources of renewable energy, but the goals and timeline suggested in the GND is laughable. Its so laughable I can't even take it seriously.

  • As a liberal I knew the Green New Deal is a waste of time. There is no way a conservative would agree to this, and what we need is a little cooperation. They package it in the most optimistic way in this video, but if you actually read it, the first part an inspiring call to action , the second part is a call to major socialism (which they sort of admit). Whomever wrote it wasted everyone's by using it to push a political agenda instead of what it should have been about.. the environment.

Stephen A. VinsonStephen A. Vinson4 hari yang lalu
    • @John Pixelty No. Emerging economies will find solar and wind cheaper than fossil fuels, especially when power stations havent been built yet. And the taxes will be on rich people. They can provide the most income.

      c a tc a t2 hari yang lalu
    • You are 100% correct. Also emerging economies need fossil fuel to get their citizens out of poverty. This plan only applies to United States and probably will end up with a bunch of taxes on top of what we (the middle class) already pay .

Then, we should ask Komyfornya limo-libs to stop using Colorado river water to lush their 100 acres lawns. Good thing Obama is gone and his tribe doesn't travel every two month on a fleet of government 747s to take much needed vacations, so we can cross that off the list. Now for the "green" and the "new"... Maybe Bern can downsize a bit from his "modest" houses. And don't get me started about AOC.. people in Bronx... imbeciles ain't got nothing on ya...
